The Bat


Read 'The Bat" and do the following tasks.
a)
Fill in the chart below to show how the batter, Tom, feels at different times in the story, and how he shows these feelings. The first line has been done for you.



Tom's feelings
What happens?
How does Tom feel?
How does Tom show this feeling?
i) Tom sees that it is his turn to bat.
Scared
He starts shivering.
ii) Matt pitches the third ball to Tom (page 47).
Happy
Cause he hit the ball and he said it was like the ball connected with the bat.
iii) Tom runs past third base.
Excited
Cause he smiles at Matt while he’s passing third base



b) Fill in the chart below to show how the pitcher, Matt, feels at different times in the story, and how he shows these feelings.

Matt's feelings
What happens?
How does Matt feel?
How does Matt show this feeling?
i)   Matt pitches the first ball and Tom misses it.
Happy
Because he throw it so hard it was faster light.
ii)  Matt pitches the ball the third time and Tom hits it.
Angry
Because tom hits the ball then smiles at him passing third base.
iii) Tom says to Matt, "Winning isn't everything."
grumpy
Then he throw his mit on the ground angrily because he probably wanted to strike Tom out.
